Microchip introduces the first MOST150 INIC that supports USB 2.0 high-speed device interface and coaxial physical layer. Microchip ’s INIC helps simplify the in-vehicle mobility of MOST® infotainment networks as well as Wi-Fi® connectivity and stylish car audio entertainment system design
Audiophile.com : Microchip Technology Inc., the world's leading provider of patented solutions for integrated microcontrollers, mixed signals, analog devices and flash memory, announced the launch of the first USB 2.0 high-speed device port and MOST150 Intelligent Network Interface Controller (INIC) OS81118 with integrated coaxial transceiver.
MOST150 technology has been successfully deployed on the first model in 2012. Now, Microchip is proud to announce that the MOST150 INIC series has launched a new product, and will continue to interpret the success story of MOST® in the future.
With its USB 2.0 ports, including USB PHY and high-speed inter-chip interface (HSIC), OS81118 helps designers connect standard Wi-Fi / 3G / LTE modules via USB to create MOST150 networked mobile and Wi-Fi® connection applications . This simple solution reflects the market demand for consumer applications such as Internet access, email, social networking, and local services in today's automotive environment. In addition, OS81118 also helps automotive engineers connect the most advanced multi-core consumer system-on-chip (SoC) to the automotive MOST network.
In addition to the optical physical layer (oPHY) interface, OS81118 also integrates a coaxial transceiver, which opens up a way to reduce costs for the MOST physical layer. In addition, this coaxial physical layer (cPHY) can be used for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Dan Termer, vice president of Microchip ’s automotive division, said: “We see a trend in the infotainment market using high-end SoCs developed for consumer electronics and mobile devices in automotive applications. However, these SoCs do not have CAN, LIN, MediaLB® or MOST And other automotive-specific interfaces. The high-speed USB port on our new OS81118 makes it easy to connect the SoC to any MOST150 automotive network, and the coaxial transceiver provides greater flexibility.
MOST multimedia network technology can realize the interconnection of rich information entertainment systems in cars by assigning multimedia entertainment functions between various control devices in the car. For example, CD or DVD changers, radios, GPS navigation, mobile phones and digital media interfaces can provide signals for this efficient network. These signals are sent to amplifiers and displays in digital form, free of static interference.
Development support
In order to further promote development and accelerate time to market, Microchip also introduced the physical + interface board OS81118. The board encapsulates the entire physical hardware interface of the MOST network. The physical + interface board OS81118 is equipped with a USB 2.0 interface that supports optical fiber and coaxial physical layer. The physical + interface board OS81118 is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2013.
Supply
OS81118 is expected to achieve mass production in January 2014. You can now apply for early trial samples, and sample production is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2013. OS81118 is available in a 72-pin QFN package.
