The IEEE802.11WG, a group that sets standards for WLAN, will begin to develop millimeter wave communication standards for the Chinese market.
At the IEEE802.11WG conference held in San Diego, California, USA from July 15 to 20, 2012, the plan for the establishment of the Chinese Standards Working Group "802.11aj" was basically determined. Previous work in this area has been carried out by a research group called "CMMW", and will be upgraded to a formal working group (TG: task group) to carry out activities in the future. The 802.11aj working group is scheduled to hold its first meeting after upgrading to TG in Beijing from September 26 to 27, 2012.
IEEE802.11WG has basically completed the formulation of the millimeter wave communication standard "IEEE802.11ad". For the Chinese market, 802.11aj will adjust the physical layer of 802.11ad (and the MAC layer of 802.11) so that it can be used in the 60GHz band licensed by China. Not only to ensure compatibility with 11ad, but also to join the relevant provisions of the 45GHz band (43.5GHz ~ 47GHz) that will be available in China in the future. According to relevant sources, because the bandwidth available in the 45GHz band is not as large as the 60GHz band, the joining members have proposed a plan to divide the frequency channel defined by 11ad into two.
According to reports, the Singapore Institute of Information and Communication (InsTItute for Infocomm Research), Intel, Huawei, and MediaTek all expressed their enthusiasm for the formulation of this standard.
