The world's first VR shoes unveiled: strolling in the virtual world

When talking about VR, you have to mention the immersive experience. In addition to letting the eyes and ears eat ice cream in the helmet, the technicians also want to improve the authenticity of the VR experience by other means. For now, the best solution is to use indoor tracking sensors and wireless controllers to let you walk and grab virtual items in small areas indoors.

However, this is just the beginning. At this year's CES, a startup created a pair of plastic VR shoes, and you can feel yourself walking in the virtual world.

Called Cerevo Taclim, this pair of shoes not only has tactile feedback, but also works with wireless controllers and Google VR devices, so you feel like you are walking in a virtual world. If there is snow in the virtual world, then you will feel the hum of your feet. If the technology continues to advance, in theory you can even feel the touch of wheat in the wheat field or the waves hitting your feet.

This idea is really big enough, so this pair of shoes has become a star product on CES. The author was also attracted by the shoes, so I decided to take a look and see what kind of height it can bring the VR experience.

In the experience zone, the developers of Taclim VR shoes ran a pair of games, and the author entered the arena after putting on the shoes. Here I will face a large number of robots. There are sand, puddles, and concrete in the arena. The author's toes, ankles, and soles do experience different feelings. Of course, this feeling is not true, but it does make my soul fly away from the CES pavilion in Las Vegas.

These shoes are also very convenient to wear, and two straps can hold your feet like a pair of beach shoes. At the same time, the front and rear parts of the shoe are equipped with a tactile feedback motor, and a fixed strap can also be shocked. In this way, when you are in the virtual world, these shoes can make your feet have a slight tingling. In addition, the shoes are equipped with a handle, and the handle will also have tactile feedback during the game. However, it is not innovative in appearance and looks like a modified version of the Oculus Touch handle.

The company said that Taclim will be available as early as this fall, and the VR shoe and handle set will cost $1,000-$1,500. Since this product is only compatible with Google VR for the time being (the immersive experience is poor), such an expensive price may be prohibitive. However, in the future, these VR shoes will be compatible with mainstream platforms such as Oculus, Steam VR and PS VR.

Although the future is uncertain, this pair of VR shoes is indeed a very interesting accessory. If you can match the indoor tracking sensor in the future, the immersive experience will definitely take it to the next level.
