What is the meaning of automatic driving?

What is the interaction between traditional cars and autonomous driving?

On the one hand, manufacturers also need to have suppliers, so there is a great demand for infrastructure, and the infrastructure related to autonomous driving is required, and it must be coherent. On the other hand, I hope that laws and regulations can keep up. Now the third, fourth and fifth levels of autonomous driving are not allowed in China.

The first and second levels are called assisted driving, which means that the driver is mainly responsible for the driving of the car, and then the driver is mainly completed in both horizontal and vertical control. Then at the second level, the driver is still primarily responsible, but the vehicle can already be controlled horizontally and vertically, whether it is acceleration, deceleration, or steering, but the driver is still primarily responsible. The most important thing is that at these two levels, the laws and regulations are already 100% defined, and it is this responsibility that is on the driver side.

From the second level to the third level, this means that the driver gave the driving right to the car, which means that the control has been handed over to the car under certain circumstances and in some situations. For example, on the highway's traffic assistance and congestion assistance, to the fourth level, the car is fully self-driving. Under all possible scenarios, but the driver can still take over at this time. At the fifth level, it is completely unmanned, there is no steering wheel, no pedals, etc., so the clarity of the laws and regulations going to the right is lower, and manufacturers are increasingly responsible for the car.

Now we are standing between the second and third levels, that is, the first and second layers have been completed on the road. The Audi A8 new model is already available for congestion assisted driving.

What do I need to achieve automatic driving?

First, the vehicle needs sensors and needs to know the environment around the car. For example, if the road is blocked or has a roadblock, sensors are needed to understand the environment around us. In addition, we need to promote the fusion of sensor information, and then use big data analysis and artificial intelligence. In the case of machine learning, we still need people to participate. The effective sensor fusion mode is that when one sensor is in the blind zone, other sensors can perform the same effective work, so that more delays caused by system redundancy can be obtained, and the whole system can be operated in an orderly manner. .

Then, for the traditional laser scanners, there may be a life cycle of 10 to 15 years. After the life cycle, mechanical accessories will bring a lot of problems, but electronic equipment does not have this problem. In the area of ​​laser scanning, there is no way to produce in batches based on cost considerations. There is no way for laser technology to support us to make a cheap, long-cycle device.

In fact, the machine itself can not judge the road conditions, it must integrate different data through the process of learning, combined with artificial intelligence to get this conclusion. Therefore, if you want to have a comprehensive information on the surrounding information of the car, you must install a 360-degree scanner on the roof of the car, so that you can avoid all blind spots and fully grasp the situation of the car.

High-level automation needs to reduce system redundancy

Finally, the engine and the guiding system, that is, the driving system, issue commands to make driving actions. If the system crashes, especially in the case of high speed, it may have caused an accident, so when we achieve higher level of automation, we must better reduce system redundancy and better improve our The sensing system or the power system is not only optimized in terms of sensors, but also has higher standards at the execution level and more redundant space.

There is no such need for redundancy in the traditional sense of driving, and when it comes to the third level, there is a need for redundancy, and in the fourth and fifth levels, the artificial After the intelligence, we saw that we have a lot of sensors, basically this scanning system of the whole car. Then there is a need for sufficient redundancy for the sensor, including for the entire brake system.
