Most of the time we use drones during the day, the chances of shooting at night are relatively small, and there are not many introductions about night shots. My own night scene shooting is also very limited, I want to share with you here.
Site selection
Most of the night scenes are in the brightly lit urban area, and safety is definitely the first issue that everyone needs to consider. To be safe at night, it is best to go to the venue during the day and try not to choose a venue with lots of wires or trees around. Wires and big trees are natural enemies for drones.
Return altitude
Be mindful of the wires and tall buildings on the flight route. Check the return altitude before each take-off to prevent the drone from jumping out of control and automatically hitting the building because it is not high enough to hit the building. When I fly in the city, I usually set the return altitude to 200 meters or higher.
When I returned, I usually pulled the drone back to my head at a very high altitude and then landed. This approach can avoid encountering buildings or trees on the way back. The insurance factor is relatively high. However, the drone's slowdown is very slow, so be sure to leave more power for returning.
When I was aerial here, the return altitude was set at 300 meters.
GPS signal
GPS signals in places with tall buildings are unstable. I observed the change in the number of satellites when the drone did not take off. It was quite unstable. On several occasions, it was observed that the number of satellites was directly seen from 10 to 5. This is still very dangerous.
When the GPS signal is not good, advise the novice to give up the flight. When it is necessary to fly, it is necessary to raise the drone to a high altitude at a relatively fast speed, which is beneficial to the drone to find the satellite. However, the ascending phase is mainly attitude flight, and the flying hand should always pay attention to controlling the drone. Otherwise it is easy to blow up the machine.
Although the ascending process is fast, don't push the riser to the highest level for a long time, which makes it easy for the motor to overheat and cause unpredictable things to happen.
Aerial exposure
Different camera performances are different, and the requirements for exposure are different. It is difficult to have uniform parameter settings. One advantage is that the light source of the night scene is relatively stable, that is, the lights of street lights, building lights, lights and TV billboards. So after setting the shooting parameters, basically no changes are needed, unless you have the light around the subject. Great change.
When I took this photo, I used manual exposure: ISO 200, aperture 1.7, shutter 2 seconds, flying height 500 meters.
Pay attention to property safety
Many flying hands are acting alone. When aerial photography, various equipments are placed in one place, and there are many onlookers. The flying hands are usually looking up at drones and rarely look down on their belongings. It is recommended that the flying parts be properly packed before the take-off, and put them in front of you, so that you can avoid a lot of trouble.
The advantages of night shooting
In addition to the cleaner and more beautiful lighting, the flying hand can see the drone in the air more clearly at night. When the air is good, I can easily see the flashing lights of the 500 high-altitude drone. In comparison, during the day, when the flying height of the drone exceeds 200 meters, it is difficult for me to see the drone with the naked eye.
This is my share of the experience of night shooting, I hope to help everyone. Also welcome the night shoot master to leave a message here, so that everyone can make a beautiful night scene.
