The new product TS4982's 3D sound enhancement circuit allows electronic devices to play space-sounding stereo sound through a compact speaker, allowing small devices to produce a high-quality listening experience that is more satisfying to users. The TS4982 can adjust 3D sound at low, medium or high volume, allowing designers to optimize stereo enhancement circuitry based on the type and size of the product. The external two pins can be set to volume without adding any external circuitry.

As an audio subsystem, the performance of the TS4982 meets or exceeds competing products. It includes a 2 x 2W stereo speaker driver circuit, a 125mW stereo headphone driver circuit, a four-step digital volume control, a noise reduction circuit that suppresses system noise, and a PC beep tone pass-through function. The headphone driver circuit and the speaker driver circuit use different enable signals to keep the device always at the lowest power consumption to extend the operating time of the battery-powered device. In shutdown mode, the TS4982 consumes only 10nA of current, so when it's not working, it can minimize the impact on battery life.
In addition to helping to improve audio performance, the TS4982 also helps designers save PC board space by providing ground reference circuitry for the headphone driver circuitry. As a result, designers do not have to add DC blocking capacitors to reduce the overall cost and size of the system. DC blocking capacitors also represent a source of noise that can be used to improve sound quality. In addition, the TS4982's speaker driver circuit has a bridge-tied load (BTL) output that produces high audio power and energy efficiency.
The TS4982's external PC beep input allows the sound generated by the PC (such as the self-test code) to be transmitted through the speaker or headphone drive circuit. In a PC multimedia application, when a user plays native or online multimedia content, the system status information of the personal computer can be obtained in real time.
The TS4982 is available now in volume production in a 5 x 5mm lead-free QFN32 package.
