The source said that Qualcomm expects to launch its next-generation 28-nanometer chip in mid-2013. According to reports, GLOBALFOUNDRIES has improved its 28nm process technology capacity and is producing engineering samples of Qualcomm's existing products. According to sources, UMC is also actively striving for a OEM contract for Qualcomm's OEM next-generation solution chips.
However, some market observers believe that UMC is still improving the yield of its 28nm process. In the 28nm process, the yield of UMC is still far below 80%, while the yield of GLOBALFOUNDRIES is already above 80%.
