The particularity of the swimming pool

The biggest problem that distinguishes swimming pool lighting from other lighting is how to control the light curtain reflection on the water surface. The light curtain reflection on the water surface poses many hazards to humans. Therefore, the installation of the luminaire should ensure that there is no visual interference and the best results for watching the game. On the water surface of the swimming pool, the ratio of light reflection and transmission depends on the angle of incidence of light as shown in the figure below.

The swimming pool is not a precise working place. For swimmers, swimming pool lighting must first provide safety for swimmers. Therefore, swimming pool lighting must meet the following requirements:

1) The service personnel must be able to clearly see the dangerous swimmer. This can be achieved by limiting the reflected light from the surface of the water and having a horizontal illumination that meets the standard.

2) During the swimming competition, when the athlete touches the pool, the referee and the spectator should be able to clearly see the action of the touch pool, so that the referee can accurately determine.

3) When holding large-scale events, the vertical illuminance value and its uniformity must meet the requirements of color TV broadcasting.

Glare control

Due to the unique optical properties of the water medium, the glare control of the lighting of the swimming pool venue is more difficult than other types of venues, which is particularly important. High-brightness glare on the wall must be avoided, as high-brightness walls make it easier to create glare on the pool surface.

1) Control the reflected glare of the water surface by controlling the projection angle of the luminaire. Generally speaking, the projection angle of the stadium's luminaire is not more than 60°, and the projection angle of the luminaire of the swimming pool is required to be no more than 55°, preferably no more than 50°. The larger the incident angle of light, the more light is reflected from the water surface.

2) Measures for glare control of diving athletes. For diving, the range of the site includes 2 meters from the platform and 5 meters from the springboard to the surface of the water, which is the entire trajectory space of the diving athlete. In this space, the venue lighting does not allow any discomfort to the athletes.

3) Strictly control the glare to the camera. That is, the light on the still water surface must not be reflected from the main camera field of view, and the light emitted by the lamp should not be directly directed to the fixed camera. It is more ideal if the 50° sector area centered on the fixed camera is not directly illuminated. d. Strictly control the glare generated by the mirror image of the luminaire in the water. For swimming and diving halls with TV broadcasts, the space in the competition hall is relatively large, and the lighting fixtures for the venue lighting generally use LED lamps with higher power.

The particularity of lamps and light sources

1) In accordance with the requirements of the International Commission on Illumination CIE, in principle, swimming pool lighting should use a high color rendering source. At the same time, due to the large number of lamps, taking into account the energy-saving requirements, try to use high-efficiency, long-life light source.

2) The environment of the indoor swimming pool is high temperature, humidity, and chemical corrosion. The lamps should be able to adapt to this unfavorable environment, and the maintenance work is different from the outdoor one. The swimming pool lighting should be fully sealed to prevent dust from accumulating on the light source and the optical reflector. If the light bulb is broken, the glass will fall into the fixture and will not hurt people. Due to moisture and condensate, the degree of protection of the luminaire should be at least Ip23, and the luminaire itself should be protected against corrosion. Light fixtures with different light distributions should be selected according to the distance of the transmission distance of the lamps.
