According to Wei Feng, according to foreign media reports, IKEA, a world-renowned furniture and home retailer, is teaming up with Apple to create a new augmented reality (AR) application that hopes to provide customers with a virtual shopping experience.
Relying on ARKit, Apple brings a new framework for augmented reality to iOS devices, which allows tables, chairs, and other furniture to appear in your room, all through the camera lens of an iOS device.
The application will use ARKit's scene understanding and lighting estimation features to allow it to automatically find horizontal planes in the scene, such as tables and floors, and track and place objects at smaller points. ARKit can even apply the correct amount and type of light to any virtual object to match the current lighting conditions in your room.
It is reported that this application will be launched in the fall of 2017, shortly after the release of the official version of iOS 11. According to executives at IKEA Digital, this will be the first augmented reality application that will enable you to make a purchase decision. 500-600 products will be launched in the form of AR. After IKEA launches new products, they will also first appear in their AR applications.
