Tablet PCs in the third quarter, global sales plummeted, Huawei did not fall back

As is well known, tablet PCs have become the sunset market just like personal computers. The difference between the manufacturers is that the decline is different (the industry also has a contrarian increase). On Monday, the US market consulting company IDC released the global tablet market report in the third quarter. Both Samsung Electronics and Lenovo experienced a sharp decline. However, China Huawei Company grew 30% year-on-year and ranked fifth in the world.

Tablet PCs' global sales plummeted in the third quarter, Huawei did not fall back

The report pointed out that the global tablet market has shrunk for eight consecutive quarters. In the third quarter of this year, the global tablet PC market capacity was 43 million units, a year-on-year drop of 14.7%.

It should be pointed out that driven by the Microsoft Surface Pro, there has been a mixed tablet trend (also known as a two-in-one notebook). This tablet has powerful performance, an external keyboard and stylus, Microsoft and Apple. They have said that they can replace the traditional concept laptop. In the IDC report, the hybrid tablet was also included in the statistics, which means that the decline of the real traditional tablet may exceed the published data.

Apple still ranked first in the global tablet market, delivering 9.3 million iPads in the third quarter, with a market share of 21.5%, but Apple's shipments fell by 6.2%.

Apple's long-time rival Samsung Electronics ranked second with a market share of 15.1%. Samsung's tablet shipments plummeted 19.3% during the quarter. In addition, China's Lenovo Group also fell nearly 10% this quarter, ranking fourth.

In the third quarter, there were two companies that grew against the trend. Among them, Amazon's flat-panel sales increased by 319.9%, and shipments were 3.1 million units, ranking third in the world.

China's Huawei's flat shipments in the third quarter increased by 28.4% to 2.4 million units, currently ranking fifth in the world.

In addition to the above five vendors, the total shipments of other tablet manufacturers have fallen by nearly 30%. This also shows the overall downward trend of the global market.

In addition, Microsoft launched the Surface series of tablets a few years ago, and later launched the industry's major invention Surface Pro, but today, Microsoft has not entered the top five global tablet. According to media analysis, Microsoft tablets are expensive, mainly for the enterprise commercial market, which may affect their shipments.

An analyst at IDC said that there was a worrying sign in the third quarter. There were low-end hybrid tablets on the market. They were cheap (less than two hundred dollars) and the experience was poor. This price and user experience trend has also appeared in traditional flat panels. This phenomenon is detrimental to the development of 2-in-1 hybrid tablets, and many people will not regard such products as substitutes for traditional notebooks.

In addition, the above Amazon statistics have certain flaws. In the third quarter of last year, IDC did not count Amazon's six-inch tablet, which led to a year-on-year increase in data in the third quarter of this year.

According to IDC's previous forecast, the global tablet market will shrink by 9.6% this year, compared with last year's contraction of 10%.

Many media pointed out that traditional tablet PCs other than hybrid tablets have already become a transitional product. When Jobs invented the tablet in 2010, the screen of the smartphone was only 3.5 inches. Nowadays, with the large screen of smart phones and the ultra-light and ultra-thin trend of notebook computers, the tablet has not found a gap in survival.
