Salt spray tests can be used to assess the quality and protection uniformity of metallic or non-metallic protective layers.


Which electronic components should first be tested for salt spray?  


In fact, there are a wide range of electronic components that require salt spray corrosion testing, such as exposed metal housings: intermediate frequency transformers, shields, PCB boards, aluminum shell capacitor housings, metal crystal housings, some switches with contacts, and radios. Variable capacitors, potentiometers, etc ...

First look at the experimental conditions:

1. The salt solution is a 5±1% sodium chloride solution prepared by dissolving chemically pure sodium chloride in distilled or deionized water. The resistivity of water is not less than 500 Ω·m.


2. Each time the prepared salt solution and the collected solution after spraying, at a temperature of 35 ± 2 ° C, the pH value should be 6.5 ~ 7.2. ph value measured with a pH meter or precision test paper. The pH of the salt solution should be adjusted using a dilute solution of chemically pure hydrochloric acid or sodium chloride.


3. At any point in the workspace, a horizontal collection area of ​​80 cubic centimeters is collected, and 1.0 to 2.0 ml of solution is collected per hour. Use at least two collectors.


4. The test time is selected from the following criteria by the relevant standards:

( salt spray) Experiment level B - 48h

( salt spray) Experimental level C - 24h


Test procedure:

1. Before the experiment, the test sample shall be visually inspected and tested for electrical properties and mechanical properties as specified.


2. Test samples should be thoroughly cleaned of dust and oil on the surface before the experiment, until the surface does not hang water drops. The solvent used did not cause corrosion and did not form a protective film. The organic coating should not be washed with an organic solvent. If there are no other regulations, the parts that come into contact with the sample holder and the cut surfaces and surfaces that do not need to be coated should be protected by wax or other similar substances.


3. The test samples should be placed in contact with each other and should not shield each other from salt spray. The main surface of the plate test sample shall be at an angle of 15° to 30° from the vertical direction.


4. If the test chamber has been stopped for more than 5 days before the test, it should be tested in an empty box for 24 hours to determine that the temperature and sedimentation rate meet the test requirements before starting the test. Spray when the working temperature is stable at 35 ± 2 °C. The test shall be carried out continuously and the test time shall be selected from the relevant standards.
