Japan's leading semiconductor manufacturers Roma (headquartered in Kyoto, Japan) to develop a thin-and-high-output electric double layer capacitor (Electric Double Layer Capacitor: EDLC) .
Based on 2.7V, this product successfully achieved the highest voltage (3.0V) in the industry. In addition, by reducing various resistance factors, the internal resistance is only 25mΩ (0.7F). Therefore, both high voltage and low resistance are achieved.
This product is expected to start selling samples (400 yen/piece) in June 2013, and will start mass production in January 2014 with a monthly capacity of 300,000.

ROHM is working to strengthen the sensor network, so it is developing the development of EDLC that is expected to be its auxiliary power source. Compared with conventional capacitors , EDLC has the advantages of small size, large capacity, and high output power. It can be used not only as an auxiliary power source for LED flash lamps such as digital video cameras, but also as a microcontroller and memory in control devices such as smart meters. The backup power supply is attracting attention. Moreover, due to the increasing miniaturization of the installation area, the demand for high voltage of EDLC is increasing.
This time, ROHM successfully achieved the highest voltage in the industry through the selection of the best materials and exclusive processes. In addition, by optimizing the surface treatment of the collector, the contact resistance of one of the resistance factors was almost zero, and the internal resistance was only 25 mΩ (0.7F). Through these efforts, higher voltages and lower resistances are achieved at the same time, providing solutions for a wider range of applications.

Not only that, but the ultra-thin aluminum laminate package makes high output possible, which is very useful for mounting in small equipment.
In the future, ROHM will continue to make full use of IC, LED and various module technologies to continue to provide solutions for applications such as peripheral circuits including LED flash modules combined with LED originals and EDLC. In addition, ROHM is striving to achieve greater capacity in the market where power storage components are expected in industrial equipment and automobiles.
