U.S. funded testing of bus sensor technology will be prioritized on pure electric and hybrid buses

Recently, according to foreign media reports, in order to improve the security of the entire traffic route network, the US Federal Transportation Administration funded $1.45 million to test the bus sensor technology to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The SRD project team is responsible for evaluating the cost-effectiveness and usability of the selected collision mitigation solution and using New Flyer as a partner in evaluating bus collision avoidance systems. Its technical assessment includes automatic braking systems and other sensors to help drivers perform pedestrian warnings, blind spot warnings and collision avoidance. Metro wants to help and warn drivers with vehicle sensors to reduce collisions with pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.

It is expected that the SRD project will be completed by 2020. With the popularity of automated driving systems, Metro sees the project as the first step in using autonomous buses in the future. The solution will be deployed on New Flyer's Xcelsior pure electric and hybrid buses.
