Semiconductor sputtering targets, pull small and international gap

Globally, the number of participating companies in the various stages of the sputter target electronic material industry chain is basically pyramidal. High-purity sputtering targets have a high technical threshold in the manufacturing process, large investment in equipment, and a relatively small number of enterprises with large-scale production capacity. . The application of the highest end of the sputtering target is in the field of VLSI chip manufacturing. This field is mainly engaged in related businesses of a few companies in the United States and Japan. It has long been an industry monopolized by multinational companies.

Dr. Yongwen YUAN introduced that the gap between domestic and international semiconductor sputtering targets is mainly reflected in two points:

In response to the above two major gaps, Dr. Yuan Yongwen stated that Ruining has its own advantages: the technology and process cover the entire process from raw material purification, processing, production and manufacturing to finished target materials, and has a vertical industrial chain; The required new material products have achieved certain results.

According to reports, Ruining has been at the leading domestic level in sputter target technology and has concentrated its efforts on breaking the bottleneck in this area. Dr. Yuan Yongwen also proposed Ruining's goal to surpass the international advanced level in 3-5 years and become a leading supplier of sputtering targets.

Innovation is supreme and technology leadership is maintained

Currently, Ruining has obtained 20 domestic and international patents for the core manufacturing technology of integrated circuit chip electronic materials, 14 of which are US or internationally authorized patents.

Dr. Yuan Yongwen said: “Ring Ning's annual R&D investment accounts for 30% of total revenue. At the same time, Rui Ning promotes the R&D process by means of projects, such as investing 1.08 billion yuan in 'annual production of 100,000 silicon below 22nm. And non-ferrous metal-based PVD chip thin film electronic materials' project. This project is dedicated to providing advanced process services for integrated circuits below 22nm, and has made a forward-looking layout covering the development of electronic materials products with a process area of ​​10nm or less."

Although most of the materials in the process update will have a certain degree of continuity, different processes will have different requirements for the same material, such as purity. At the same time, the demand for new materials in the process of advanced processes is particularly prominent. Dr. Yuan Yongwen said that the breakthrough in new electronic materials is the advantage of Ruining, such as the new generation of rare earth-based materials.

Today, emerging technologies based on third-generation semiconductor materials are rapidly emerging, and the highlands that seize the third generation of semiconductor materials technology are also becoming increasingly fierce. When talking about the third-generation semiconductor industry, Dr. Yongwen YUAN said that Ruining’s layout in this area is mainly composed of high-power device internal components, and there is already a ceramic-based sapphire (alumina) substrate production line. As long as there is market demand, it will quickly Cut into the third generation of semiconductor materials.

Although with the development of technology, the third generation of semiconductor applications will become more and more extensive, but silicon as the basis of the semiconductor industry, will remain the most mainstream materials and technologies in the next ten years. Dr. Yongwen YUAN introduced Ruining's technical reserves in silicon and silicon wafers. At present, the mainstream size of silicon wafers is 8 inches and 12 inches. A small number of companies in the world can achieve 18 inches. Ruining is one of them. At the same time, Ruining provides services for the reuse of old silicon wafers. An 8-inch line in the Luzhou plant serves this business. Dr. Yongwen Yen said that improving the quality of wafers for reuse and expanding their application areas will be an important development direction.

Ruining has R&D bases both at home and abroad. The R&D base in Quzhou mainly serves production. The R&D base in the United States is mainly to keep in line with international leading technologies, such as advanced processes.
